What is Contrology?

Contrology is the name that Joseph Pilates gave his system of exercises. It was after he died in 1967 that it became known as the Pilates Method. At Fokus Pilates, we use the term Contrology because we teach the format Joseph Pilates used to teach his students in his original New York studio. This format is called, Open Studio.

    An initial private class is where you will start your Pilates journey at Fokus Pilates. Here, you will learn your first set of exercises. From here, you can move into the Open Studio Classes.

    Some clients require more than one private session before joining the Open Studio classes due to the specific issues in their bodies or the stage they are at with their injury rehabilitation. You will receive guidance and advice after your first Private session to help make this decision.
